Summary
Wrap glassware in 3-5 paper sheets, place vertically in divided boxes with peanuts; stack plates with towels. Use original boxes for electronics, bubble-wrap screens, and label "This Side Up." Bubble-wrap lamps/chandeliers; seal liquids in ziplocks upright; foam the corners of the box/X-tape mirrors and frames and have them stand vertically. Mark "Fragile" on the top side of the box and load fragile on top of heavier items or on the side of the truck.

Before hiring packers and movers for an intercity move, always confirm how they handle fragile items such as TVs, glassware, monitors, and kitchen items. Do take confirmation of proper packing materials, insurance coverage, labeling, and damage policies, as they are very important. Asking for these details in advance can help you avoid damage, stress, and extra costs during the move.

What to Specifically Confirm about Fragile Item Packing Before Booking Movers?

  • Packing Materials Used

Ask what materials they use for fragile items. Good movers usually use bubble wrap, foam sheets, stretch film, carton boxes, and corner protectors. Let me tell you, cheap packing can increase the chance of damage during transport.

  • Double-Boxing and Wooden Crating

For expensive items like LED TVs, monitors, mirrors, or glass tables, ask whether they offer double-boxing or wooden crates. These provide extra protection during long-distance shifting and on rough roads. As you know, road vibrations can cause interior damage to screens and fragile objects.

  • Transit Insurance and Liability Coverage

Don't assume that typical moving insurance will cover the cost for all damages. So, always confirm if transit insurance is included. Ask what damages they cover and how much claim amount they provide if something breaks during transport.

  • Fragile Labeling and Loading Process

Ask whether they label boxes as “Fragile” or “Handle With Care” and how they load them into the truck. Make sure fragile items should stay on top, not under heavy furniture or appliances or are loaded separately.

  • Inventory Documentation

Make sure they prepare a detailed inventory list. Also, ask them to note any old scratches or pre-existing damage before packing. Photos and videos also help later.

  • Damage Claim Process

Ask how to report damage and how many days the claim process takes after delivery. A reputable moving company will answer these questions clearly and without hesitation.

A little checking before booking movers can protect your valuable items and make shifting much safer. I hope you now clearly understand what questions to ask packers and movers before packing fragile items for intercity shifting.

Here are the tips you can follow to pack fragile items of your house carefuly:

  1. Dishes and or Glassware: For glassware, Wrap every item in packing paper, like using 3 to 5 sheets, place right in the dish box with vertical dividers and fill gaps with packing peanuts. Layer plates standing like records and use towels or foam between stacks.

  2. Electronics: If possible, use the original box in which the electronics came, or else find a box closest to that size. Bubble wrap the screens, use foam for padding and mark the top of the box with the label, ‘This Side Up’.

  3. Lamps and Chandeliers: Wrap bulb/base with bubble wraps and pack shade separately in the box with crumpled paper.

  4. Liquids like Perfume and Oils: Seal in ziplocks, wrap and place in upright position in sealed plastic bin away from fragiles.

  5. Mirrors and Frames: Apply foam in the corners of the box and tape X across the glass. Stand the frames and mirrors vertically and never flat to avoid crushing.

  6. Loading: Mark all the fragile boxes as ‘Fragile’ on the top side of the box. Load fragiles on top or sides of the truck. Verify with the movers’ inventory.
