Take carpenter’s glue and apply a generous amount to the cracked floor joist.
At the end of the joist insert an old-work metal joist hanger.
Place the 2x4 post and hydraulic jack into the cracked joist.
Pump the jack until the crack in the joist is closed.
Secure the hanger to the beam using nails.
Take glue and wipe off the excess glue from the joist.
To make the floor stiff insert cross-bridging or solid blocking between the joist.
While notching the joist never cut it into the centre third of the joist.
The depth of the notch must not be more than one-sixth of the height of the joist.
The length of the notch must not be more than one-third the height of the joist.
Notches should be straight and clean with radiused corners.
Attach a ¾-inch plywood strip and insert the notched joist.
Secure the plywood strip with glue and nails.
