To repair an AC remote, start by checking and replacing weak or dead batteries, and clean the battery terminals. If the display or buttons aren’t working, open the remote and clean the circuit board, remove dust or moisture, and ensure the LCD ribbon cable is properly connected. Check the IR LED with a phone camera and re-solder any loose connections. For physical damage or faulty components, replace the damaged parts. If issues persist, seek professional or manufacturer help.

Here is how to repair AC remote,

  1. First, check the batteries. Remove old batteries and insert new ones. Make sure they are placed in the correct direction.

  2. Next, clean the battery contacts. Sometimes dust or rust stops the remote from working. Wipe the metal parts with a dry cloth or a little rubbing alcohol.

  3. Then check if the remote is sending a signal. Open your phone camera, point the remote light at the camera, and press any button. If you see a light flashing on the screen, the remote is working.

  4. If it still does not work, reset the remote. Remove the batteries and press all buttons for 10 to 15 seconds. Then insert batteries again.

  5. Also, clean the remote buttons. Dirt can get stuck under the rubber keys. Gently clean with a dry cloth or soft brush.

  6. If the remote still does not work, the problem may be inside the circuit or the remote sensor.

So, the better option is to replace the AC remote or call a technician to check both the AC and the remote. A trained technician can easily find the exact problem, whether it is in the remote or inside the AC unit. After checking, they can repair or replace the faulty part properly. This saves time and avoids further damage.

We bought a new AC recently for our house but within a month, its remote stopped working. My father banged it against his hand, believing it was just a minor issue but he couldn’t make it work. I removed and inserted the batteries again and I understood that they were not inserted properly. If your remote is not working, there can be other reasons. So here are some suggestions on how to repair AC remote control.

How to Repair an AC Remote Control?

Your remote might not be working due to poor battery power or some other reason. Let me share some tips on how to repair your remote at home for minor issues:

  • Ensure the remote has fresh batteries and is properly inserted.

  • Clean battery contacts with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol to make sure the remote works properly

  • If you feel there is a battery issue, remove the batteries, press any button for 5 seconds, and reinsert the batteries.

  • Ensure buttons are not stuck or damaged. If they are, seek for a professional’s help

  • Check if the remote's infrared sensor is unobstructed and clean. If not, clean it with a dry cloth and recheck.

  • If applicable, follow the AC unit manual to resynchronize the remote.

  • Look for physical damage in the remote. If you find any, replace the damaged components.

  • You can also look for updates or reset the remote's software.

But if problems persist, do not play with it. Seek help from the manufacturer or ask a professional to help you. And please don’t bang it. That doesn’t help much.
