Hi! Removing tiles from the border while keeping the other ones intact is a task. But, it isn’t impossible. I will help you with how to remove border tiles only. For this, you will have to go slow and be careful at each step. You will need proper tools for this to achieve the desired result. Below, I have explained the complete method.

How to Remove Tile Border from Wall?

  1. Begin by slicing through the grout lines between the border row tiles and the tile you want to preserve.

  2. You can use a grout saw for this or any number of small power tools, such as a multi-tool with the right choice of blade.

  3. Next, you must run a line of masking tape along the top edge of the tile you wish to preserve, then slice through the grout.

  4. After this, slice through the grout lines between the accent tile rows. You must limit the amount of tile that will get pulled or pried off.

  5. Move on to covering the counter with cardboard to protect it from flying tile bits. Also, wear eye protection as shards of the tiles will fly at times.

  6. You then need to create some vertical slices through the grout in the accent tile rows and gently pry it off the wall.

  7. If you tap a thin spatula or a paint scraper between the tile and the wall, you should be able to pop the tiles off with little damage to the wall.

  8. Keep the blade of this tool almost parallel to the wall and tap with a small hammer.

You will be done.
