Hey! We installed blinds on our house windows a year ago. I observed that the blinds had caught a lot of dust and needed cleaning. So, I searched for how to remove blinds for cleaning.

I found out that different blind types have different techniques to remove them. So, I’ll share the ways accordingly.

How to Take Down Blinds for Cleaning?

Mini Blinds:

  • For Mini blinds, pull the blinds fully open so that they fold to the top of the headrail.

  • Every headrail will differ like this. You will have to open the spring loaded panel.

  • Slide it out using a flathead screwdriver or pull the headrail towards you to remove the blinds from the brackets.

Cellular Blinds:

  • Open the blinds up and then find the spring clips at the front or the back of the headrail.

  • Loosen up the spring clips with a flathead screwdriver by pulling them towards you.

  • By keeping a hand on the headrail, catch the blinds once they disconnect from the brackets.

Horizontal Blinds:

  • Pull the blind strings down to its full extent to open the blinds completely.

  • You’ll be able to grip the headrail and pull it towards you to remove the blinds from the brackets.

  • If not, you’ll have to push the front panel of the headrail. The removable headrail will be visible after this.

  • If these two methods don’t work, take a screwdriver and loosen the front bracket to open the headrail’s casing.

  • After the blinds disconnect from the brackets, keep them aside. Using a screwdriver, remove the screws from the brackets on both sides of the window frame.
