How is the electricity bill reading done?First, do know that 1 unit of electricity means 1 kWh or 1 kilowatt-hour
Suppose you have a 100-watt bulb in your house
The amount of electricity required to lit this bulb for 10 hours will be 1 unit of electricity
That means 100*10 = 1000 watt-hour = 1kWh = 1 unit power
Now let's do the calculation.
To calculate the power consumption of a month, you have to subtract the current meter reading from the last month’s meter reading
Next your task is to know the energy charge that you can get by multiplying the units by per unit charges
Suppose it is Rs 4.22 for 1-100 units; Rs 5.02 for 101-200 units and Rs 5.87 for 210-300 units. So if you have used 250 units in a month, your charge will be
(100*4.22 + 100*5.02 + 50*5.87) = Rs 1218
Total energy bill= fixed charge of Rs 40 + energy duty of Rs 38 + Rs 1218 = Rs 1296
I hope now you have understood how to read electricity bill.
