This is what is a security deposit. And just like any other security deposit, this deposit is also refunded. When you cancel your connection to MSEB and return your meter, you will be refunded the entire security deposit amount. All of the postpaid customers pay their bills after the consumption of their electricity. The bill is generated after 5 to 10 days of the billing cycle. The tenure to pay this bill is generally 15 to 20 days post the generation of the bill. If a customer doesn't pay their bill within this tenure, they are given a notice of 15 days to pay the electricity bill and if they fail to pay the bill even after the notice period, only then their electricity supply is cut off. So, in that way, a customer who doesn't pay their electricity bill on time or even after the notice period can use electricity for 2 months without paying their electricity bills. Because of this, MSEB had been facing huge losses. This is why the electricity board charges a security deposit from the customers. This security deposit amount is equal to two monthly electricity bills of a consumer. So, if a consumer doesn't pay the electricity bill even after the notice period or cancels the connection, the amount is recovered by MSEB by deducting from the security deposit submitted by the consumer at the time of taking a connection.
How to pay MSEB security deposit online?
Let me tell you beforehand, that if you pay your electricity bill through third-party apps like Paytm or BillDesk, you will not be able to make payments for this additional charge. To pay the MSEB security deposit, you will have to visit the Mahavitaran website or mobile application. I will tell you how to pay the security deposit through the Mahavitaran website.
Go to the website and enter your 12-digit consumer number and the captcha code. I would advise you to use your laptop or a system for the same because you will not be able to view all of the details on mobile.
After you click on submit after entering your consumer number and captcha code, you will be able to see your details.
In the details, you will be able to see the option of 'Make Payment'.
Click on this option to access the payment page.
On the payment page, you will be able to see the 'Additional Security Deposit' option.
Click on this option and enter the additional security deposit amount. You can also pay this amount in 6 instalments.
Now click on the check box of terms and conditions for online payment.
Post this, and a pop-up will appear on your screen to confirm the payment. Click on 'OK'
The payment gateway page will open up where you will have to choose your payment method and enter your bank details.
After successful payment, you will be able to save or print the payment receipt. You can also view your payment receipt in the 'View History' section.
