While renovating my bathroom, I had to remove the tiles from the plasterboard. Let me tell you that to get tiles off plasterboard wall is definitely a delicate process, because plasterboard can easily get damaged. Pulling tiles that are attached to plasterboard incorrectly might easily result in damage. While it’s possible to remove tiles by yourself, I still would advise all to hire a professional for this job, just like me.

How to Get Tiles off Plasterboard?

  1. Use cardboard or dust sheets to shield floors, sinks, bathtubs, and porcelain fixtures. Dust spreads far, so cover surfaces farther away from the work area and tape over drains.

  2. To protect flooring and fixtures from sharp objects and falling tiles, use thick cardboard or bubble wrap.

  3. Use a grout rake to remove grout around the tile, then insert a chisel and gently tap with a mallet.

  4. After the tiles are loose, carefully pry them off with the chisel. Removing the first tile is the most difficult part; the others come naturally.

  5. Sand the surface, patch up any gaps. If there is significant damage, think about re-plastering.

I hope this helps!
