Karva Chauth begins with Sargi. As it is thought to be nutrient-dense, it would be simple to maintain a tight fast throughout the day. Here is the step-by-step process on how to do Karwa Chauth puja alone at home:

  • Begin your Karwa Chauth vrat with sargi. This needs to be done before sunrise.

    • The dessert (rice pudding), also known as kheer in India, is called sargi.

    • The only limitation is that Sargi must not include any non-vegetarian foods.

    • Also, garlic and onions shouldn't be used in any of the culinary preparations.

  • Adopt a rigid nirjala vrat after sunrise by abstaining from food and liquids all day.

  • Clean your home and the puja room.

  • Bathe early and dress in traditional clothes such as a saree or lehenga.

  • Put alta on your feet and mehndi on your hands.

  • Decorate a rangoli to adorn your home's entrance and draw blessings and good vibes.

  • Make bhog prasad, like halwa, in the afternoon.

  • Assemble a Karwa Chauth thali to store karwa, durva grass, cotton wicks, and a diya.

  • After sunset, put up pictures of Ganesha, Shiva, and Parvati or a Karwa Chauth calendar. Below it, draw a Swastik symbol.

  • Now, put a pot, or Karva, in the middle of the Swastik. Pour water or milk into it, cover it, and wrap mouli (red thread) around its neck.

  • Put another Karva, which stands for Goddess Parvati, next to it as you are doing the puja alone.

  • Offer flowers, diya, and incense to start the puja.

  • Also, offer akshat and roli to the deities and light the diya.

  • Next, swap your Karva with the Karva of Goddess Parvati seven times. Ensure you are holding Goddess Parvati's Karva at the conclusion.

  • Listen to or read the Karwa Chauth Katha (story), which is available online.

  • Perform aarti with the diya. After the moon rises, light a diya to worship the Moon God.

  • See the moon through a channi, then look at your husband.

  • Ask your spouse to offer you water first, then something sweet to break your fast.

  • To end the process, seek blessings from your husband and other family members.

Karva Chauth is a one-day festival celebrated by to-be brides and married women in our country. On this day, women pray for the long life and welfare of their husbands. It can be difficult to celebrate this festival if you don’t have guidance. But worry not! I will tell you how to do Karwa Chauth puja alone at home as I have observed my mom perform it several times.

How to Do Karwa Chauth Puja at Home
  • In the afternoon, cordon a small square space next to a vertical wall outside or inside your home. Use turmeric to make a Swastik in the middle of the area.

  • Place the Karva Chauth calendar against the Vertical wall. This calendar includes representations of Lord Ganesha, Lord Shiva, Lord Kartik, and Goddess Parvati.

  • On a plate, place pooja items including a betel nut, a clean betel leaf, a glass of milk, a glass of clean water, turmeric powder, mouli, and roli.

  • Place the Karva in the center of the Swastik and fill it with milk or water. Now, cover the Karva and place sugar and grains of wheat over it.

  • Apply roli to the Karva and tie the Mouli around the neck. This is an important point on how to do karwa chauth puja at home.

  • Apply roli to the pictures of Gods on the Karva Chauth calendar. Sprinkle haldi and akshat on the Image.

  • Now, recite the Karva Chauth Katha (you will easily find it on YouTube). Hold raw rice grains in your fists while listening to this Katha.

  • After the completion of the story-telling session, keep Karva aside and donate it to a nearby temple.
