1. Start by gently nudging the drops with a flat head screwdriver or a metal putty knife. Many welding drops don't actually fuse with the ceramic; they just sit on the surface, so a quick, sharp tap on the side of the bead might pop it right off.

2. Use a fine grit sandpaper or a pumice stone for stuck on residue. If the metal has left a dark mark, light sanding in a circular motion can lift the surface debris, but be careful not to rub so hard that you strip the tile's protective glaze.

3. Apply a specialised rust remover or an acidic cleaner to the area. Welding spatter is essentially iron, so it can leave rust colored rings, dabbing these spots with a phosphoric acid-based cleaner will dissolve the metallic bond.

4. Try a magic eraser for the black scuff marks. Once the physical metal bead is gone, these melamine sponges are amazing at buffing out the carbon soot and heat marks left behind on the tile surface.

5. Buff the area with a bit of toothpaste or a mild polishing compound. If the tile looks slightly dull where the spark hit, a little non-gel toothpaste and a microfiber cloth can help restore the shine to the glaze.

6. Sweep up all metallic dust immediately. Use a vacuum or a magnet to ensure no tiny metal shards are left behind, as these can cause scratches or new rust stains if they get wet later.

Let me share my experience on how to remove welding marks from tiles. When I was working on a metal project, some sparks flew from the welding torch and landed on my tiles.  I didn't like how my flooring looked because of the burn marks that the heat from the welding created on the surface.

• I also used white vinegar for more stubborn spots. Covered the burn marks with a cloth dipped in vinegar, and then I gave it a few minutes to set before removing it. One piece of advice from my end is that if you notice any persistent marks then you should use a fine-grit sandpaper to sand the areas.

• Finally, after removing the marks, I polished the tiles to restore their shine, making them look as good as new.
