My wardrobe is a mess as I don't generally fold my clothes. After washing the clothes, I just toss them in the wardrobe. A few days back, I noticed a foul smell from the wardrobe and thus, I decided to clean it. Since I didn’t know how to clean wardrobe at home, I called my sister and asked her about the same. How to Clean the Wardrobe?

My sister provided me with some tips and I have added those below. 

Remove Everything

She told me to start by removing everything from the wardrobe. I have to take every piece out of the closet and pile them on top of the bed.

Discard, Donate, and Fold

Next, she asked me to separate the clothes that I didn’t need from the ones I needed. She suggested that I donate all the clothes I didn’t need instead of throwing them away and folding the clothes that I needed.  

Cleaning the Inside of the Wardrobe

To clean the inside of the wardrobe, she asked me to use natural ingredients like vinegar, salt, etc. This not only maintains the longevity of the closet but also the clothing items.

• Take Out Everything

By everything, I mean everything. Open all the drawers and compartments in the wardrobe and take out all your belongings. 

• Clean The Wardrobe Shelves

Start by cleaning the shelves of the wardrobe. Use a vacuum cleaner to clear the dust off the shelves, and then a cloth to wipe down the walls. Follow the same for the drawers. 

• Sort, Reorganise & Donate 

Divide your clothes into three categories Keep, Unsure, & Throw. The Keep section items can go back to the wardrobe and organise them in a way that makes it easier to choose. Donate all the clothes that you want to throw away

How To Clean Your Wardrobe From The Outside

Cleaning the wardrobe from the outside is important as well and here is how I do it. 

• First, I use a soft dry cloth to dust the surface and this does half of the cleaning. 

• After that, I spray a cleaning liquid on the surface mildly and wipe it off using a damp cloth. 

• Finally, I wipe the surface again using a dry cloth to remove the rest of the moisture.

1) Deep-Clean Your Cupboard

Begin by cleaning. Empty your wardrobe and use soapy water to clean every surface. 3 tsp. can be mixed. to make a soapy solution, mix one litre of water with dishwashing liquid. Make sure to wipe all of the drawers, hangers, rods, and hooks as well. From there on, clear the cleanser off with a spotless, wet fabric. Placing old newspapers on the shelves of the wardrobe after it has dried will make them easier to clean later. Additionally, you can use mothballs to keep insects out.

2) Clean Your Clothes

You need to keep your wardrobe clean, not just the clothes in it. To stop germs and infections from spreading, it's a good idea to wash your clothes after each use.

3) Segregate Items

Sort your garments and frill into classes, for example, pants, tops, skirts, dresses, kurtas, belts, scarves, etc. Sort items into three piles for each category: keep, give away, or toss. You will have a better idea of which items need to go where once the sorting is done.

4) Organise Your Clothing

Tops, kurtas, dresses, skirts, and other clothing can be hung. on wooden hangers, preferably, in order of length, in descending order. You actually might hang two tops for every holder. You can make use of the space under hangers by placing clothing piles or storage boxes under shorter items.
