How is electricity duty calculated for domestic consumers?

I got a bill in which Rs. 79.92 were charged for a consumption of198.80 units while in another bill electricity charges was Rs. 1514.80 for a consumption of 288 units. Is it possible this abrupt change?

Yes, electricity charges can fluctuate dramatically even when use is not very different. The final bill is calculated using slab rates, fixed charges, billing period, taxes, subsidies, and other changes.

I had a similar issue and initially compared merely the units. Later, I examined both bills line by line and discovered that the billing period, meter readings and individual fee components were important.

You must check these details:
  1. Previous and current meter readings

  2. Number of billing days

  3. Applicable slab rates

  4. Fixed and other charges

  5. Arrears, taxes or adjustments

If Rs. 79.92 for 198.80 units and Rs. 1,514.80 for 288 units appear strange, contact your electricity provider to request a bill calculation review.
