As far as I am aware, the current residential electricity unit rate in Bangalore is around Rs 5.90 per unit. Previously, it was Rs 7 per unit and was brought down last year after the Govt. revised the BESCOM rates. The current commercial rates are around Rs. 8 per unit. But these changes won't affect those who are getting zero bills under the Gruha Jyothi scheme. And that is all I know.

What is fixed charges in electricity bill

I am a businessman by profession. A few months back when I was checking out electricity deals I observed that there are different prices when looking for commercial and residential electricity unit rates. I even started to question why there is a price disparity.

Simply stated, commercial buildings typically place a greater demand on the electricity grid than residential ones, which raises the cost. But there are other elements at work as well for residential vs commercial electricity rates.

What elements affect the variation in electric rates commercial vs residential?

Infrastructure

When examining the setup and use of electricity in a residential house, it is frequently a small area with 4-5 people using power and very few big appliances. But when you look at a company, it frequently has more employees and larger appliances, so it needs a bigger load and a bigger electricity infrastructure to run at its best. Costs are higher as a result of these increased expectations.

Type of plan

You may have noticed that some retailers offer a variety of deals and discounts for residential plans but less or none on their business rates when you search for electricity. There are typically two types of plans accessible, fixed-rate and variable when it comes to the plans that retailers give to their customers.

First, your commercial electricity price per unit will be established at the beginning of your contract and will remain the same through its completion. This indicates that throughout the term of your contract, your utilisation and supply charges won't change. Almost all energy retailers give a standard package called a variable-rate plan. Your energy costs will vary under this plan in accordance with market trends.

So, if you are wondering are commercial electricity rates higher than residential, yes there are disparities but these are the reasons behind them.

Time of usage

The amount and timing of electricity use is the main factor behind the disparity in business and residential electric rates.

You may be familiar with peak and off-peak hours for energy. When more people are using the electrical system, it is said to be at its peak; when fewer people are, it is said to be off-peak. It is likely to coincide with regular business hours if you take into account that many businesses usually use the majority of their electricity. Comparatively, residential buildings frequently use the majority of their energy during off-peak evening hours.

Level of energy consumption

The quantity of energy used by the property is the other important factor that contributes to the difference in business and residential electric rates. It's possible that you have more influence over your electricity use at home. You are aware of the equipment you own, how much energy they use, and which months you are most likely to overspend. Even at home, you undoubtedly have a few strategies for reducing your usage.

Understanding the reasons for price variations can be useful whether you're looking for residential, business, or commercial electricity programmes. You can still shop around and compare prices offered by various retailers to find the one that's best for you, regardless of the sort of electricity customer you are.

This is all about commercial and residential electricity unit rates.
