When is Vishwakarma puja?

Last year, I noticed people around me celebrating Vishwakarma Puja and offering prayers to their tools, machines, and work equipment. I wanted to know why people celebrate this day and when it falls. I learned that Vishwakarma Puja is usually celebrated on 17 September every year. In 2026, Vishwakarma Puja will be celebrated on Thursday, 17 September 2026. According to Hindu beliefs, Lord Vishwakarma is known as the divine architect and craftsman.

What is the Story Behind Vishwakarma Puja?

1. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Vishwakarma is known as the divine architect and craftsman. He is believed to have created and designed many divine structures, weapons, and cities for the gods.

2. Lord Vishwakarma is also believed to have designed places such as Lanka, Indraprastha, and Dwarka. Because of his knowledge, creativity, and skills in construction and craftsmanship, people respect him as the divine architect.

3. People celebrate Vishwakarma Puja to express gratitude for the tools, machines, and equipment that support their daily work and livelihood. The festival is especially important for workers, engineers, craftsmen, mechanics, factory owners, and people who work with machines and tools.

4. On this day, people usually clean their workplaces, tools, and machines. They decorate them and perform puja to seek blessings for safe and successful work. It is also a day to respect hard work, skills, and craftsmanship.

So, Vishwakarma Puja is celebrated on 17 September, and it is a day to respect Lord Vishwakarma and the skills and tools used for work.

Vishwakarma Puja or Vishwakarma Jayanti or Vishwakarma Day is devoted to Lord Vishwakarma, who is considered the designer of the world. He also created various weapons for Gods. There is a statue of Vishwakarma installed in my workplace around which all the workers gather to perform the puja.

Vishwakarma Day falls on 17 September 2022 (Saturday). It is a restricted holiday in 2022.

As per the Gregorian calendar, Vishwakarma Day falls on 17 or 16 September every year. On this day, people celebrate Lord Vishwakarma’s birth anniversary. This festival is mainly celebrated by factory workers, industrial workers, welders, smiths, mechanics, craftsmen, artisans, the architectural community, engineers, etc.

In Rig Veda, Lord Vishwakarma is specified as a divine carpenter and is credited with Sthapatya Veda, the science of architecture and mechanics.

• On this auspicious day, special prayers and pujas are performed in workplaces, factories, and offices. These places are beautifully decorated with flowers for this festival.
