Hey. I learned about the strap footing foundation from my uncle, a civil engineer. An element of a foundation that joins several column footings with a concrete beam is called a strap footing. It is a kind of integrated footing since it typically supports two columns. You can use it to disperse a building's weight over a greater surface area.

Here are the conditions under which you can use the strap footing.

  • When a property line runs through a column

  • When there is uneven or unstable ground

  • When there is a significant gap between columns

  • When a high permissible soil pressure

What are the advantages of combined footing with reinforcement?

Strap footing foundation is a term you may hear while constructing your house. But what is strap footing? If the footings of two independent columns are joined together by a beam it is known as strap footing. My interior designer first introduced this concept to me and I was pretty amazed by the idea behind strap footing design.

  Make space in your home and let NoBroker Home Interior Service arrange things for you. Furnish your house by installing strap footing by hiring experts from NoBroker home renovation services!

Strap footing is required when the distance between the columns is so far apart that the combined trapezoidal footing becomes a little narrow and there are high bending moments. In these circumstances, the column is provided with its independent footings and the beam is there to join the two footings.

The strap beam doesn't have any contact with the soil and therefore it doesn't transfer any pressure to the soil. The strap remains stiff and it is made to move the column loads to the soil with equal and uniform soil pressure under both footings.

Strap footing is generally used when there is a presence of soft soil and it is used to avoid the sinking of individual footings.

I will share a strap footing design that has a formula with the help of it you can find the total area of the footings.

  Areq. = F1 + F2 / qall where F1 – column load 1,  F2 – column load 2, qall – allowable bearing capacity of soil

I hope you know the importance of strap footing foundation now.
