I recently had to undergo a painting project in my house. I was’nt sure about what is gypsum plaster, however, during this painting project I learned the significance of the same. Plaster of Paris, another name for gypsum plaster, is a multipurpose building material that is frequently used in interior wall and ceiling finishes.

What is gypsum plaster?

Mixing water with dry POP powder causes it to solidify. This substance is known as Gypsum plaster which can be used to cover concrete, brick, or block surfaces to create a smooth surface. Any type of brick, solid or hollow blocks, AAC blocks, and plaster boards can all be directly coated with gypsum plaster. Excellent fire resistance, sound-insulating qualities, and ease of application are just a few benefits of this material.

What is gypsum plaster made of?

Gypsum plaster is a white cement substitute that is created by either fully or partially dehydrating the gypsum mineral, usually with the addition of specific hardeners or retarders. When applied in a plastic state (with water), the gypsum and water react chemically to set and harden the material.

What is gypsum plaster used for?

It is used for,

  • Interior wall finishes

  • Celing finishes

  • It is because of its superior fire resistance, it is used in both residential and commercial construction, increasing the safety of buildings.

  • It is very difficult for mould and mildew to grow on gypsum plaster.

  • Your home will remain warm in the winter and cool in the summer because of gypsum's low thermal conductivity.

I hope this helps!
