While buying a house, I got confused about what is built up area in construction. On discussing the same with my builder friend, I got a clarity regarding these topics. So I’ll be happy to share my learnings with you.

What is the Built Up Area of Multi Storey Building?

My builder friend said;
  • The entire area of the property, including the carpet area, walls, balconies, and other spaces like lobbies and hallways, is referred to as the "built-up area."
  • Wall thickness is included in the built-up area, which is typically 10–20% more than the carpet area.
  • The built-up area also includes communal spaces like elevators and staircases that are used by all building occupants.
How to Calculate Built Up Area? The formula to calculate built up area is as follows; Built up Area is equal to Carpet Area + Wall Areas + Terrace and Balcony + Exclusive Corridor. I believe this information will help you.
