When an individual purchases a property on behalf of the real owner then the term straw buyer is used. A straw buyer is someone who doesn't use the property themselves but pays the money so that someone else can reside in the property on the condition that the person who is residing will pay the amount fully to the straw buyer. Straw buyers come in handy when an individual cannot apply for or secure a home loan due to poor credit history. This is known as the straw buyer scheme.  I will share with you what happens to straw buyer loans below.

Get home loans at the lowest interest rate and avoid hefty paperwork at NoBroker!

This type of purchase is considered illegal since the buyer does not intend to repay the loan and the owner has not purchased the property legally. Therefore, using a straw buyer to purchase a property is a criminal offence.

What happens to straw buyer fraud?

Using straw buyers can cause trouble for both the owner of the property and the straw buyer. Due to unlawful transactions, straw buyers can face charges for mortgage fraud, mail fraud, tax fraud, and money laundering. A person can face jail time if they face these types of charges.

At times, investors need straw buyers as they mortgage too many properties. These mortgages disqualify them to buy a home. This is when straw buyer mortgage fraud occurs. I hope you understand what happens to straw buyer loans now.
