When you are planning an apartment renovation, the term “end-to-end interior design” is often used very loosely. Different designers may include different services under this label, which can lead to confusion during execution. That is why it is important to clearly understand what deliverables should you expect from an interior designer before hiring.
What Deliverables Do You Expect from an Interior Designer in a Renovation Project?
A professional interior designer should begin by gaining a detailed understanding of your space through site measurements and requirements analysis.
Based on this, you should receive a conceptual design package that includes mood boards, theme suggestions, and initial space planning layouts.
These help you visualise the overall direction of your home design.
Once the concept is approved, the designer should share detailed technical drawings.
This typically includes 2D floor plans, furniture layouts, electrical layouts, lighting plans, plumbing layouts, and false ceiling designs.
These drawings are essential for contractors to execute the work accurately without confusion.
Along with technical drawings, 3D visualisations or renders should be provided to clearly show how each room will look upon completion. This step helps avoid design mismatch and allows changes before execution begins.
Another important deliverable is the material specification.
This includes the selection of wood finishes, laminates, paints, hardware, tiles, and other materials.
A proper Bill of Quantities with cost estimates should also be shared, so you know exactly what is being used and how much it will cost.
During execution, regular site updates, progress reports, and coordination with contractors should be part of the service.
Finally, at project completion, you should receive a handover that includes warranty details, material information, and confirmation that the work matches the approved design.
I hope you now have a clear idea of what to expect from an interior designer for a renovation project.

I'm currently comparing a few interior designers for our apartment renovation, and everyone says they’ll handle things “end-to-end”, but nobody is being very specific about what exactly they’ll be giving us during the project. So before hiring someone, what deliverables should I realistically expect from an interior designer in a renovation project?
