Last week I faced this issue and hence researched the AC compressor overheating causes. I found there are several reasons why an AC compressor may overheat. Low refrigerant levels, unclean coils, electrical issues, insufficient ventilation, and other issues are among them. I have shared all the common reasons I came across below.

Common Causes of AC Compressor Overheating
Here are a few indicators to look out for.
The compressor must overheat because of the dirty coils that prevent heat from dissipating.
Overheating may result from the compressor having to work harder to cool the air when there is insufficient refrigerant.
The compressor may overheat and can’t adequately chill the air if it is not receiving enough power.
The compressor may operate improperly and finally overheat if there is a wire short circuit.
Condenser air blockage, poorly fitting connections, a condenser that is too small, or a malfunctioning condenser fan could all be the cause of your compressor's excessive discharge pressure.
I have hired an AC technician to fix it. I hope you found this helpful.
