Last week I faced this issue and hence researched the AC compressor overheating causes. I found there are several reasons why an AC compressor may overheat. Low refrigerant levels, unclean coils, electrical issues, insufficient ventilation, and other issues are among them. I have shared all the common reasons I came across below.

Common Causes of AC Compressor Overheating

Here are a few indicators to look out for.

  • The compressor must overheat because of the dirty coils that prevent heat from dissipating.

  • Overheating may result from the compressor having to work harder to cool the air when there is insufficient refrigerant.

  • The compressor may overheat and can’t adequately chill the air if it is not receiving enough power.

  • The compressor may operate improperly and finally overheat if there is a wire short circuit.

  • Condenser air blockage, poorly fitting connections, a condenser that is too small, or a malfunctioning condenser fan could all be the cause of your compressor's excessive discharge pressure.

I have hired an AC technician to fix it. I hope you found this helpful.
