When my cousin moved into a rented flat in Gujarat, she assumed the process would be as straightforward as paying rent and signing paperwork. But later she came to know that she had to submit some documents for drafting a rental agreement. She asked me for the documents required for rent agreement in Gujarat. I shared with her the general list of required documents, which I mentioned below.

What are the Rent Agreement Documents Required in Gujarat?

When drafting a rent agreement in Gujarat, the landlord and tenant will need to furnish several documents for verification, registration (if needed), and to ensure the agreement is legally strong. These typically include:

  1. Landlord’s photo ID: Aadhaar card, PAN card, voter ID, passport, etc.

  2. Tenant’s photo ID: likewise, Aadhaar, PAN, passport, etc.

  3. Recent color photographs of both the landlord and tenant.

  4. A Sale Deed or Title Deed to confirm that the landlord is the rightful owner.

  5. Property tax receipts (recent) or utility bills in the landlord’s name to support ownership.

  6. Address Proof of Landlord and Tenant.

  7. Witnesses’ Details: Two witnesses (not related), with their ID proof and signatures. Witnesses must sign the agreement.

  8. Appropriate stamp paper value as per Gujarat’s stamp duty rules, or use e-stamp via SHCIL.

  9.  The agreement must be signed by both landlord and tenant.
