What are roof shingles?

I went to see my cousin in the USA a couple of months ago for the first time and I saw that the houses and structures were quite different. The first thing that I noticed was that they were well-maintained. Not one house was in a dilapidated condition as I can see here in India (not that I am complaining about it). Anyway, I really found the roofing of the houses to be fascinating. I got to know that the roofs of those houses were made of shingle roof tiles. I then searched for them online just to see if I could find them in India. I have renovation plans for the outhouse in Dehradun.

Basically, I observed that roof shingles are overlapping flat, rectangular shaped tiles which are laid on each other. Shingle roof tiles have many different types. Here is a list for you:
