A temple or a pooja room in a house is the place we perform our poojas and worship the almighty God. This is the place where we re-energise ourselves and fill the environment with positive energy.  Want to re-do your pooja room? Find best ideas and assistance with NoBroker Home Interior Service. According to the Vaastu Shastra, the east or the north direction is the best suited for the temple or pooja room. If that is also not possible, we can use even the west direction too. The south direction for the pooja room must be avoided in any case because south is considered to be the direction of Yama, the God of Death. In big cities, due to space crunch, it is not always possible to keep a separate pooja room in the house. If that is the case, you can create a wall-mounted temple, use a shelf or a table as a temple. Now the question is, in which direction we should keep god photos. Be it a temple, a pooja room, a wall-mounted temple or any other corner of the house being used as a pooja corner, the best direction to keep god photos  or the idols is the east or the north, as the person who is performing pooja, must not face the south direction.  God photos or idols must not be kept on the floor. Always use a shelf or a table to keep them. Avoid keeping your pooja space under the staircase, basement, against a bathroom wall or bedroom.  Always remember, by placing god photos in your house, we are inviting peace and positive energy to our house. So, it is very important to know in which direction we should keep god photos. Find out more about which direction should God face in Home. Hey Swati, A temple, mandir, or a pooja room in a house is the store of positivity. It is the place of God in our house which is filled with positive energy and vibrations. I have great faith in God and the calmness and peace a temple brings about in a house. I always sit in the pooja room of my house in the morning and the positive energy of the room fills my mind and body with peace and energy to face the good and bad of the day. So, I know how important it is to understand God photo facing direction in home in the pooja room.  As already mentioned by Miss Surbhi, the most appropriate direction for God photos is the east or north side of the mandir. This is because such directions ensure that the face of the God photo or idol is not facing the north direction. If God's photos face the north direction, the worshipper will face the south direction while worshipping which is not considered to be an auspicious direction to worship. I would also like to tell you which God photo should face which direction. Like, the photos of Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, Lord Mahesh, Lord Indra, Suryadev, and Kartikeyan, should be placed in the pooja room in the east direction. Lord Ganesh, Durga Maa, Bhairav, and Kuber photos and idols should be placed facing the north direction in the pooja room. You should always place the photo or idol of Lord Ganesha beside Goddess Lakshmi and place the photos of Lord Indra and Kuber in front or on the left side of Ganesha and Lakshmi, Which direction God photos should face? Apart from the east and north direction, God photos and deities can also be placed facing the West, Southwest, or South direction, so that the face of the worshipper is always in the auspicious direction.  I hope now you clearly understand God photo facing direction in home. Dear Vinay, Thank you for the clarification. I have a doubt about the explanation. In the first paragraph you have mentioned like God shouldn't face North Direction, "If God’s photos face the north direction, the worshipper will face the south direction while worshipping which is not considered to be an auspicious direction to worship" In the second paragraph, you have mentioned like " Lord Ganesh, Durga Maa, Bhairav, and Kuber photos and idols should be placed facing the north direction in the pooja room" I am a bit confused here. Can you pls help?

I bought a house, however, due to space constraints,  it was not possible for me to have a separate temple or pooja room. However, I believe that by creating a room for worshipping, we are creating a room to get charged with positive vibrations every morning, and that energy will energise our environment, mind, body, and soul. Our work efficiency will increase and so will progress, prosperity, and peace. Hence, I decided to get a wall-mounting photo of God. Nevertheless, I was confused regarding the God photo direction as per Vastu. Get your space decorated with photos of deities via the NoBroker Home Interior services Hence, I visited my Guru ji and asked him, which direction is best to keep god photos. To this, he highlighted a few facts regarding the God photo frame direction as per Vastu;
  • The image of Lord Vishnu Laxmi should be framed and hung in the north-east, while the image of Sai Baba should be hung in the north-west.
  • The image of Hanuman Ji should be kept in the South-East to improve Mars' dominance, which helps boost strength and enhance happiness.
  • Radha Krishna should remain in the northeast because it brings forth the force of the moon and Venus, which promotes peace.
  • The statue or image of God and Goddess Shiva Parvati should face northeast. It increases the Moon's strength, which improves financial stability.
When I asked him, “Can we hang God photo on south wall?”, he told me to avoid facing God’s photo in the south direction because as per Vastu, it is not considered auspicious. Sitting in the north or east direction for worshiping is favourable as it brings peace of mind and concentration, as per Vastu Shastra. I hope this will help you with your query, about the God photo direction as per Vastu. Read More: Which God Photo to Keep in Bedroom: Vastu? I am an ardent follower of Sri Ganesh Ji, and before our house moved, I bought a huge photo of Ganesh. When I moved to my new house, I was wondering can we hang God photo on north wall. Different people will give you different opinions. I was totally confused, so I asked my mother about it. Elderly people know Vastu things precisely, so asking them about the direction is the best option.

Where to place god photos in home?

As per the Vastu Shastra, placing an idol or picture of any God or Goddess on the wall on the east or north side or direction. Please do not let God face the north direction. But there are some other things I learned. The god photos should be placed in which direction cannot be stated properly without knowing about which God you are talking. Different Gods must be kept in different directions, like-
God/Goddess Facing Direction
Shiv  North
Laxmi  North
Lord Ram West
Krishna East or West
Hanuman  East
You can follow this list to know the god photo in which direction should be placed. I am not sure about the directions of other gods and goddesses hence I am not mentioning them. If you know more details, please share them here. My question, "Can we hang God photo on North wall hence got answered perfectly. While considering, where to keep god photos in house, many people considers the placement of Pooja room in the northeast. This seems to provide prosperity, luck, health, and peace.

Can we keep God photo facing north?

Yes! You can. It is considered the best direction to place God’s photo.
  • It is because the sun rises straight in the northeast in the morning, this is another crucial consideration for positioning the puja room. Additionally, it is believed that the direction has the most beneficial energy.
  • The second most crucial Vastu Shastra principle is that when performing worship, one should always face east.
Despite the fact that the North-East is a great site for a pooja room, on some large plots, a pooja room might also be situated in the Brahmasthan (centre area) of the home.

Can we keep God photo facing south?

The Pooja room shouldn't face south in a home that faces south. It is regarded as Yama's (the God of Death) preferred direction. The Pooja room should continue to face northeast and north. The prayer room's roof must be triangular for homes that face south in order to maintain a steady flow of energy into the building. I hope this helps you understand which direction to keep God photos in house.
