How to stain an old fence?
If you wish to give your fence a new look, you can either stain it or polish it. It will make the fence look expensive while increasing its life span. It will accentuate the patina of the underlying wood with a subtle tint etc.
Tools and material needed:
- Stiff-bristle brush
- Garden hose
- Oil-based wood stain
- Wood sealant
- Power washer
- Bucket
- Bleach
- Natural-bristle paint brush
- Wood stain stripper
- Sanding block
How to apply stain to a fence?
- I would recommend using a semi-transparent oil-based stain that is specifically designed for the exterior.
- Wash and bleach the fence to give yourself a clean base
- Use a medium-sized brush, four or five inches long to stain the dance. You can also use a a pad with a fluffy nap or a roller.
- Start painting with staining liquid from top to the bottom. Make small, quick brush strokes instead of big ones. Small strokes will give you an even finish
- If required, strain the fence with another coat.
