How to remove rust stains from terracotta tiles?

  1. Squeeze lemon juice onto a fresh piece of cloth. Lemon juice should be seasoned with table salt. The rust stain can be removed by putting lemon juice, and salt side down, placing the towel on it and letting it sit for a few minutes

  2. To get rid of more deeply embedded rust spots on your terra-cotta tiles, make a poultice of diatomite. A paper towel should be folded so that it will completely cover the rust stain. Pour diatomaceous earth or diatomite on top of the rust remover after moistening the paper towel with the rust remover.

  3. Add just a bit more rust remover until the diatomaceous earth powder resembles a thick paste. Put the poultice on the rust spot. Cover the poultice with a layer of plastic wrap.

  4. To draw the rust stain out of your tile, leave the poultice on top of it for up to 48 hours. After three hours of applying the poultice, start examining the area to see if the rust stain has disappeared.

  5. Take off the poultice from the surface of your terra-cotta tile and clean it with a damp sponge.
