Hey Kalpana. Recently, I observed rust formation on my door hinges and I looked up how to remove rust on door hinges at home. I luckily found a good method which worked very well for me. I used vinegar, baking soda a few other things to remove the rust completely and then applied a sealant for future prevention. Let me share how I removed the rust.
How to Clean Rust from Door Hinges?
Take a wire brush and scrape the rust off the door hinges. Likely, a bit of paint will also come off in the process. Don’t exert too much pressure to avoid leaving scratches on the hinges.
If the rust is still there, use a piece of sandpaper to sand off the rusty surface. Move the sandpaper in a circular motion and remove any dirt and dust with a soft brush.
Dip a sponge in vinegar and dab it onto the rust. Let the vinegar work for about half an hour. If required, apply more vinegar.
Make a paste of water and baking soda and apply it directly to the rusted region. Let it sit for 30 minutes and then clean it off using a soft cloth.
Wash the hinge by making a cleaning solution comprising dish detergent and a little bit og water. Rinse the mixture thoroughly afterwards and wipe the door clean with a dry towel.
Apply a rust sealant to overcome future rusting.
