Summary
Holding tax (also called property tax or house tax) is paid through your city's municipal corporation or ULB (Urban Local Body) portal. Locate your holding number—also known as property ID, PID, or assessment number—on a previous receipt or demand notice. Visit the official portal, search using your ward and holding number, verify the displayed dues, and pay via net banking, UPI, debit card, or credit card. Download the receipt afterward.

Holding tax, alternatively termed property tax or house tax, is settled via your municipal corporation's or ULB's (Urban Local Body) online portal. First, locate your holding number—also called property ID, PID, or assessment number from an earlier receipt or demand notice. Access the official portal, look up your details using your ward and holding number, confirm the outstanding amount shown, and complete payment through net banking, UPI, debit card, or credit card. Save the receipt once done. Below, I have shared how to pay holding tax online.

What is the Process to Pay Holding Tax Online?

  1. Locate your holding number from a previous receipt, demand notice, Khata, or patta document.

  2. Open your official city or ULB municipal portal—avoid private bill-pay apps.

  3. Search your property using your ward number and holding number, or owner name if unavailable.

  4. Verify the property details and outstanding dues displayed on screen.

  5. Confirm the assessment year for which the tax is payable.

  6. Select a payment mode—net banking, UPI, debit card, or credit card.

  7. Complete the transaction and download the official receipt from the ULB portal itself.

What if the Holding Number is Not Known?

If the holding number is unavailable, it can be found by searching the ULB portal using the owner's name, ward, and locality details, or by visiting the municipal office in person. Since rates, rebates, and due dates vary by municipality, property owners should always confirm current figures directly on their own ULB portal rather than relying on another city's information.
