Summary
To lay vinyl sheet flooring on concrete, start by cleaning and leveling the surface, filling cracks and removing bumps. Prepare the room by clearing furniture and trim. Measure and cut the vinyl slightly larger than the space. Apply adhesive, place the sheet, and press it firmly to remove air bubbles. Trim edges and let it dry fully.

Here is how to lay vinyl sheet flooring on concrete:

  • First, clean the concrete floor. Make sure it is smooth, dry, and free of dust, dirt, or grease.

    • Fill any holes or cracks with a patching compound. Grind down any high spots.

    • Remove small bumps with a chisel and hammer. Always wear safety glasses.

  • Next, prepare the room. Move out all furniture, appliances, or anything on the floor. Remove doors if needed.

    • Carefully remove the floor trim with a pry bar and a block of wood.

    • Pull out any nails from the old trim.

  • If your concrete is uneven, you may need to use a floor leveler.

    • Spread it with a trowel and let it dry.

    • Sand the surface smooth after it dries. Clean the floor again to remove dust.

  • Now, measure the room. Cut your vinyl sheet so it is slightly larger than the floor on all sides.

    • You can either trim the vinyl after placing it or make a paper template to cut it before.

    • For small rooms, rolling it out and trimming it in place works best.

  • Lay the vinyl on the floor, leaving the edges curling up against the walls.

    • Apply adhesive according to the type of vinyl, either full-bond for the entire floor or perimeter-bond around the edges.

    • Use a notched trowel to spread the glue evenly. Let the adhesive sit for a few minutes to set.

  • Press the vinyl firmly onto the concrete. Use a floor roller to press the sheet from the center out to the edges.

    • Smooth out any air bubbles.

    • If there are seams, use a seam sealer.

  • Trim the edges against walls and around obstacles.

    • Reinstall floor trim or baseboards, nailing them to the wall, not the floor.

    • Let the adhesive dry for 24 hours before walking on it or putting furniture back.

By following these steps, you can easily install sheet vinyl on concrete, and your floor will be smooth, secure, and long-lasting. Hope you found these steps easy.
