Hi all, I usually download the receipt after the payment so that I know I’ve paid the tax. But last month, I had to check the status as I couldn’t remember if I had paid. So, in such cases, you must visit the official website of your municipal corporation and look for the section on property tax payment status. Since I’m from Bangalore, I can share how to check if property taxes are paid through BBMP.

How to See if Property Taxes are Paid?
It’s quite simple. If your property is in Bangalore, then just go to the BBMP website and you will find a section named ‘property tax’. Here are some steps you can take to check the status properly.
First, visit the
BBMP online portal.Under the ‘property tax’ section, you will find many options. Just click on ‘pay your property tax’.
In this page, you will find a tab called ‘payment status’ at the top.
Enter your application number or challan or transaction number.
Click on ‘retrieve’.
That’s how I could get the acknowledgement receipt. I am sure this will work.
If you’re from any other state, the process will be pretty much similar. You only have to visit the online portal of your state’s municipal corporation. So, that’s how to check if you paid property tax or not.
In case you couldn’t get it, I’d advise physically going to your local municipality office with your property documents, and they will help you get the receipt.

How to Check if My Property Tax is Paid?
Determine the municipal corporation or local authority governing the area where your property is located. Most municipal corporations have an official website where property tax information can be accessed.
Some well-known examples include: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for Bengaluru, Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) for Mumbai.
Look for the property tax section on the municipal corporation’s website. It might be labeled as "Property Tax Payment," "Property Tax Search," or "Online Property Tax."
You will need to enter specific details to find your property tax information. Common details required include:
Property Identification Number (PID)
Property Tax Index Number
Owner’s Name
Address of the property
After entering the necessary details, you can search for your property. The portal should provide a history of property tax payments, including amounts paid, payment dates, and any outstanding dues.
Some portals also allow you to download or print receipts of property tax payments made. For instance, in BBMP Property Tax Payment Portal, you can click on "Retrieve Property Tax Details."
Enter the Property Identification Number (PID) or other relevant details such as the owner’s name or address. Once the property details are retrieved, you can view the payment history, including all past payments and any pending dues.
If online methods are not feasible, you can visit the local municipal corporation office with the necessary property documents and identification proof to request the property tax payment history. The officials can provide you with the required information and printouts of the payment records.
