Hi, Buddy,

Have you observed that your air conditioner's refrigerant is ineffective? Did you notice that even when the air conditioner was turned on, it was still warm? If you enjoy doing things around the house on your own, you may be able to fill the gas in the home air conditioner. Let me tell you, how to fill gas in AC?

Yes, you can always call a professional to fix your air conditioner, but if you want to do it yourself, continue reading.

How to fill gas in split AC:
  • With the correct tools and safety equipment, filling AC gas is a simple task. To begin, locate the suction (low side) and discharge lines on the air conditioner (high side).

These are found behind a window air conditioner and in a split air conditioner in the outside unit. The suction line, which is placed above the discharge line and is chilly to the touch, is located above the discharge line. The discharge line feels warm to the touch at this time. The suction line is used to refuel the air conditioner

  • Unscrew the suction line's bolt as illustrated below

This screw serves as a valve, preventing refrigerant from flowing in or out until the screw is closed. As a result, loosening this screw is critical for filling the AC gas

  • Then unscrew the bolt on the left and attach the AC manifold gauge's blue hose to this port. Connect the yellow hose to the vacuum pump. Remove every last drop of air from the system. This step is critical because any moisture within the compressor will cause it to malfunction

  • Make sure the AC manifold gauge's valves are completely closed now. The yellow hose should then be connected to the refrigerant tank. Loosen the yellow hose at the manifold end slightly before opening the tank knob. Then, for 1 second, open and close the cylinder knob. This will exhaust all of the air from the pipes. Tighten the yellow hose once more

  • Now open and close the manifold's low side knob for 3-4 seconds. Then turn on the air conditioner and wait for the compressor to start working.

  • Reopen the low side valve of the manifold after the compressor has started. For 4 seconds, keep the valve open, then close it for 2 seconds. When the valve is closed, note where the pressure settles on the gauge. Continue to open and close the valve until the pressure reaches 60-70 PSI.

  • Because releasing all of the gas at once would destroy the compressor, the AC refrigerant gas is filled in little volumes at a time.

  • Close the manifold valve after the pressure reaches 60-70 PSI

  • Close the knob on the refrigerant tank

  • Remove the blue hose from the suction line by unscrewing it

  • Remove the yellow pipe from the refrigerant tank by unscrewing it.

Done!

How much cost for AC gas filling:

The cost of AC gas refilling for split air conditioners starts at Rs. 1700, while window air conditioners cost Rs. 1500

Remember that air conditioner refrigerant is hazardous and can cause frostbite, so take the precautions listed below before starting the AC gas filling process:

  • Use gloves as a precaution

  • Put on your safety glasses

How To Check Ac Gas Level At Home?

Filling AC gas or refrigerant is not a DIY task. I once tried to do this at home but I had to get professional help midway through. So, I would suggest you get your AC serviced to refill AC gas. However, I can help you with

how to fill AC gas. If you know the process you can monitor the AC servicing in a better way.

How to Refill AC Gas?

Go through my guide on how to fill and refill gas in your AC. I have tried to explain it as comprehensively as possible. These were the steps followed by the NoBroker AC servicing professionals for my AC gas refilling.

  • Locating Service Valves:

After turning off the power supply to my AC, the professionals found the service valves on the outdoor unit of my AC, which were labelled as "High Pressure" (HP) and "Low Pressure" (LP).

  • Connecting Manifold Gauge Set:

Then they attached the manifold gauge set to the service valves. It is the set that has different coloured wires attached to it. So, make sure you do the correct colour-coding: blue for LP and red for HP.

  • Checking Refrigerant Level

: Then they used the manifold gauge set to check the current refrigerant pressure in the system.

  • Evacuating Existing Refrigerant:

They noticed that the pressure of my AC was significantly low. So, they connected the vacuum pump to the HP service valve and evacuated the remaining refrigerant from the system.

  • Refilling with Refrigerant:

After that, they slowly opened the LP service valve to fill refrigerant into the system.

  • Adjusting Refrigerant Level:

Once the pressure had reached the recommended level, they closed the LP service valve and disconnected the refrigerant can.

Once they were sure there were no leaks of the AC gas from my AC, they reconnected the power supply and turned on the air conditioner unit to verify that it was cooling properly. Now you know

how to refill air conditioner gas.

This is how I refilled AC gas in my AC with the help of NoBroker. You can also book their service.
