Last weekend I visited my cousin and saw him cleaning his Voltas AC. I asked how often we should clean the filter, and he said every two months is best for smooth cooling. I observed the process. He started by turning off the unit, removing the front panel, and then proceeded in several stages. To help you understand better, I have added the detailed Voltas AC filter cleaning process below.
How to Auto Clean Voltas AC?
Here are the steps my cousin followed to clean the Voltas AC filter.
Turned off the AC to stay safe.
Then he opened the front cover and took out the filter.
Used a vacuum cleaner with a brush to remove the dust from the filter.
After vacuuming, he washed the filter under normal running water.
Then he soaked it in warm water with a little detergent for 10 to 15 minutes and moved it around to clean it well.
Once done, he kept the filter in the sunlight to dry fully. He said it is important to ensure it is completely dry before putting it back.
When the filter was dry, he placed it back in the AC properly and closed the cover.
Finally, he turned on the AC again. It started working nicely and fresher.
This is how he cleaned the AC filter. But I would suggest hiring an AC technician. That is the best idea, because sometimes we may not do it properly.

Hi there, I too, have a Voltas AC and can tell you the Voltas AC cleaning process. I have a split AC, so I’ll share the cleaning process for the same.
What is the Method for Cleaning Voltas AC?
Switch off the power supply to the AC. This is important to avoid any accidents.
Go to the external unit and remove the fan cage. Use your hands to clear the dust and dirt in the unit. You can also use a vacuum cleaner to clean.
Take out the external covers and get rid of all the dirt with the help of a vacuum. Before you clean, add the brush attachment to the vacuum.
Take a garden hose to clean the fins from the inside out. Another option to clean the fins is to use a fin cleaning spray.
Straighten the bent fins with the help of a butter knife or a commercial fin-straightening tool.
After you’ve cleaned, place the fan cage in its place. Avoid, placing any plants within the 2 feet radius of the unit. I suggest this, as it helps in maintaining proper airflow.
To clean the evaporator coil of the AC, remove the indoor furnace unit. With a soft brush, clean the coil.
Spray the coil using a no rinse coil cleaner. Clean the drain pan using soap, hot water, and some bleach.
If your evaporator drain is clogged, take a vacuum to clear the blockage. Remove the paper filter from the vacuum before cleaning.
The blower filter is a part which needs replacement twice a year. So when required, replace it with a new one having the same airflow rating.
Turn on the power, and you can use your AC now.
This is all about how to clean Voltas AC at home.
