Metal furniture, especially aluminium, has a high durability, but they’re not very immune to moisture and easily get oxidised when they come in contact with oxygen and dampness. To clean this oxidisation, it’s important to use the right cleaning supplies. We have aluminium patio furniture on our lawn and as much as it elevates the outdoor look, it’s also difficult to clean them. Let me share with you how to clean oxidized metal patio furniture using DIY methods.

How Should You Clean Oxidized Metal Patio Furniture?

If your furniture has minimal stains and corrosion, I have some simple DIY tips to help you get started.

  1. First, clean your furniture and remove excessive dirt on the surface and grime.

  2. Then, make a vinegar solution using warm water. Alternatively, you can use any mild cleaning solution or baking soda paste, too.

  3. Take a sponge or soft brush and gently rub the stains off the furniture. Once done, you can rinse the furniture.

  4. If the furniture is severely tarnished, I’d recommend using lemon and salt. Just cut the lemon in half, dip it into half, and rub over the stained area gently.

  5. After you’re done cleaning, rinse the furniture thoroughly with clean water.

This is how I clean our patio furniture. If you want to give your furniture a refined and finished look, you can polish and buff the surface.

Tips to Prevent Oxidation in Furniture

If you have outdoor furniture, you must keep an eye on them to maintain the shine, since they’re prone to moisture and dampness easily.

  1. I’d recommend applying a protective coating over the furniture, like clear sealant, furniture wax, or even paint. This will not only protect the surface of your furniture but also elevate the aesthetic look of it.

  2. Another tip is to check your furniture for any signs of discoloration or rust.

  3. Finally, you must clean the furniture once a week using a mild detergent solution.

I hope this was helpful.
