Here is how to clean a sofa by hand
First, take a dry, soft cloth and wipe the entire sofa properly. I clean the seat, backrest, arms, sides, and corners to remove loose dust, hair, and small dirt particles. If there is more dust on the sofa, you can also use a soft brush and gently remove it.
Next, take a bowl of lukewarm water and add a small amount of mild liquid soap. Mix it properly.
Before applying this solution to the sofa, I suggest testing it on a small hidden area first.
This helps you check whether the fabric changes colour or gets damaged.
Once you are sure the solution is safe, dip a clean, soft cloth into it and squeeze out the extra water. The cloth should only be damp and should not be soaking wet.
Now, gently wipe the sofa section by section. I avoid rubbing the fabric too hard because this can damage the fabric or spread the dirt to other areas.
If you notice small stains, gently wipe those areas a few times with the damp cloth. You can also use a soft brush for suitable sofa fabrics, but do not scrub aggressively.
After cleaning, take another clean cloth, dampen it with plain water, and wipe the sofa again. This helps remove any soap left on the fabric.
Finally, open the windows and keep the room well-ventilated so the sofa can dry properly.
I always make sure the sofa is completely dry before using it again. Avoid sitting on the sofa while it is still damp because moisture can remain inside the cushions and may cause a bad smell.
