How to Calculate AC Capacity for a Room?

1. When multiplying the length and width, add together the room sizes that aren’t separated by doors, as the AC will need to cool both regions.

2. If over 2 people stay in the room for at least 40 percent of the time when the AC is running, add 600 BTU for each extra person.

3. If the room is near the sun for most of the time, increase the capacity by 10 percent.

4. If your room is away from the sun for most of the day, you can reduce capacity by 10 percent.
