Did you know? There are many types of bricks that are used in construction work. I am sure you must have seen those red blocks that are loaded off trucks in great batches and lie just outside a construction site. When my brother was pursuing civil engineering I asked him out of curiosity about how many types of bricks there are and surprisingly, he gave a straightforward answer. I won’t take you in circles either and let you know each detail.

There are approximately 5 types of bricks that I am aware of:
Burnt clay bricks: Also known as common brick, these are used in building columns, walls and foundation of buildings
Fly ash brick: This type of brick is generally used in construction of pillars, foundation and walls. These bricks are not soaked in water before construction
Sun dried bricks: these are basic bricks which are generally used in rural areas or for temporary constructions
Concrete bricks: These bricks are made out of cement, sand and water. These can be manufactured easily, even on the construction site.
Engineering bricks: These bricks are known for their strength, cold and fire resistance. These are used mostly in construction of basements
These are my insights on types of bricks. I hope you find them useful.
