Hi there. I came across your query and can tell you how do soundproof rooms work. So soundproofing a room works using four methods: adding mass, absorbing sound, layering and sealing gaps. I will tell you how these work below.

Methods to Soundproof Rooms

  1. Using Mass to Block Sound: So hanging heavy mass loaded vinyl sheets or double layer gypsum boards on walls work. Thick materials such as plywood or cement boards help in blocking outside sound.

  2. Absorbing Sounds: Stick acoustic foam panels, mineral wool slabs, or thick fabric curtains everywhere to create a soundproof room. They soak up vibrations instead of bouncing them around. You can also add wall to wall carpet, like coir rugs, which are a great option for the monsoon season and they cut the sound of footsteps by quite a bit.

  3. Sealing Gaps: Another way to soundproof rooms isby using caulk to seal around windows and doors with acoustic sealant. You can also replace hollow doors with solid-core wood ones with rubber sweeps.

  4. Layering: You can combine mass loaded vinyl sheets, rockwood insulation anda false ceiling. This setup will significantly reduce the noise.

So these are some methods through which how rooms are soundproofed. I hope this turns out to be useful for you.
