Home décor is an art form that can take several forms and use various materials. Whether you use pottery or bricks, mortar or Plaster of Paris, the possibilities are unlimited. Today, we'll look at the plaster, one of India's most often used building materials. Plaster has always been one of the simplest materials to produce and use. It can be used in various sections of your home, such as the kitchen, lounge room, bedroom, and even the bathroom, to cover the roofs, walls, and even other ornamental household items, but just nobody can do this. Today, plaster design is commonly found in every urban home in India for living rooms, bathrooms, bedrooms and the kitchen as well.

Benefits of using Plaster of Paris in Interior Design

  • Designers have used plaster of Paris (POP) for centuries to impart texture to ceilings and walls. Here's how to incorporate this versatile media into your home's decor.
  • Know the science of POP to understand better how it works! POP is a white powder made by boiling solid gypsum until the water in it evaporates.
  • When water is added to the powder in a 1:2 ratio, a paste is formed that hardens in about an hour.
  • POP can also be used to great effect in cornice work and fake ceilings. It can also be used to create murals or sculptures.
  • The POP mix may be readily moulded into the required shape by fibreglass or wooden moulds.
  • After the POP has hardened into the mould's shape, it can be fastened to the ceiling or wall. More paste can then be used to fill in the holes.

12 Plaster Design Ideas for Home Interior

These are some unique ideas that you might want to try at home to achieve the perfect look.

Designs for Roof Moulding

plaster-design
(Credits: inpinterest.com) Plaster of Paris is one of the most commonly used materials for wall moulding in Indian homes.

When working with plaster on a room's ceiling, you have two options: use a coating to provide a pattern or something more unique than just a simple flat rooftop with light. Or, use a coating to provide texture or something more imaginative than just a simple flat rooftop with light. To facilitate the environment to make it more fun and comfortable, you may even mould the edges to add a kink with some lighting.

Use Lighting to Make Your Job More Appealing

As a homeowner, one always wonders how they can leverage the customisable nature of POP material by using other elements. One of the key advantages of plaster, as seen in these ceilings, is its decorative capability. Walls and floors that are placed to complement any living room's soft and exquisite lighting work very well.

Panels for Decoration

Gypsum can also be used to produce textures that are unique and original. In this shot, you can see a magnificent invention from one of our specialists who made a creative wallboard behind the TV whose style not only adds refinement but also positively affects the impression of the dimensions of space that functions in this location. It also emphasises the overall elegance of design.

Don't Overlook the Kitchen Ceiling

You can make practically anything out of plaster, including durable surfaces to be used daily. In this kitchen, you could see how modern work is born of metal qualities employed in this area and colours such as red, resulting in a modern and gorgeous kitchen. Keep in mind the colour selections for the kitchen such that the design seems cohesive. The colour red increases appetite and is hence the ideal choice.

Plaster Design for the Bathroom

POP can also be used in bathrooms if work is done with a moisture-resistant coating. This will help to avoid future mould growth. You may also use plaster to add depth and appealing reliefs to the walls of the bathroom or pair it with delicately coloured tile to give the space a softer, more soothing feel.

Plaster and Lighting Combination

Plaster of Paris isn't only for decoration; it's also a clever technique to control the lighting in a room. The design continues throughout the length of this lovely living room, a gap in which the laser beams that brighten the hall are located. Furthermore, the lighting adds a delicate shine to the wooden floors of various equipment to give them an appealing appearance.

Pooja Rooms Plaster of Paris

The mandir room in any home is one of the most visited and close to heart rooms for every Indian. Decorating the room is easily possible by using POP and lighting smartly. Pooja mandapas are adorned with POP cornices, mouldings, pilasters, and ornamental latticework. Since POP is formed and moulded, it may be easily included in any decorative design. As a result, it is the material of choice for any aesthetic embellishments to the Shrine chamber.

POP & Lighting that Hides Wiring

plaster design

POP walls can be used for both practical and aesthetic purposes. One reason to install a plaster design on the ceiling is to hide the excess wiring that is needed for lighting installations. POP design helps in hiding the For example, service lines in the air - conditioning system, ducting and electrical wiring can be hidden in the space just above the ceiling. They also improve soundproofing and give thermal insulation to the room.

Ceilings with Plaster of Paris Coffers

POP can highlight shapes, offer cove lighting, and create different levels while dealing with ceilings. With many of the popular ceiling designs in India today, the ones that have lighting installations are more preferred. The tray ceiling constructed from POP adds to the appearance of living room decor. Massive cornices and hidden lights add to the luxury of the space and hence this type of ceiling installation is absolutely perfect for living or drawing rooms.

Ceiling Lighting in the Bedroom

Using soft, hidden lighting in the fake ceiling creates a relaxing environment in the bedroom. Using POP shapes on the ceiling, this designer experimented with different levels. He adopted several micro spotlights and disguised strip lights to create a delicate glow.

POP ceiling and plaster design work provide a bit of beauty to a plain ceiling, bringing focus and drama to the space.  The design in the image above is one of the most easily doable and cost-effective ways of decorating the living room ceiling. To create a cohesive concept, the same patterns might be repeated on the walls so that the ceiling and wall design blends-in nicely.

It is critical to have a stylish room. That is why plastering the top of your bed is a wonderful alternative for not only adding varied volumes and depths but also for adding style and a sense of elegance. Plus, don't forget about the lighting on the roof, where a plastered fake ceiling provides an intriguing brightness projected on the rooftop for the entire area.

The Plaster of Paris ceilings or mural design can be tailored to your tastes, functional requirements, and colour scheme. POP planning is a method to go if you want to boost the aesthetic of your décor! Deciding on the plaster design can be a tough decision for many homeowners. My daughter who is studying architecture in college came with me to the HSR center. She was quizzing the consultant about material sustainability—whether the plywood is from certified sources, if the laminates have low VOC emissions, what happens to waste material from the factory. The consultant handled every question and even pulled up their material certification documents. My daughter was impressed. She told me later: 'Appa, this company actually knows their supply chain, not just their design.' When a 20-year-old architecture student validates your choice, you know you've picked right.

Just finished the design phase with NoBroker interiors. I really appreciate the efforts done by our designer Sujendra Shetty. He helped and guided us in all designs we finalised. He was really patient while we took our time to finalise the designs and when we did material reselection. He was proffesional yet friendly and made the design phase smooth for us. We would be starting the production soon and I will update this review on project completion.

Specifically writing about the false ceiling consultation at the center. I didnt know there was so much to know about ceilings! The designer showed us different options—gypsum board, POP, wooden grid, MDF panels—and explained which works best for which room. The living room got a peripheral cove lighting design with warm LEDs, the bedroom got a simple recessed light plan (she said elaborate ceilings in bedrooms can feel oppressive when your lying down, which makes total sense), and the kids room got a small starlight panel. She also planned all the AC routing, curtain pelmet concealment, and speaker cable channels inside the false ceiling so nothing is visible. The ceiling alone transformed how our rooms feel. Also, their false ceiling pricing per sq ft was pretty competitive—I had checked with two separate contractors before.

I am from Kadugodi and was looking for modular furniture solutions for our new apartment. The NoBroker Varthur experience center had an extensive display of TV units, shoe racks, foyer designs, and partition options. The team helped me plan an open kitchen with a breakfast counter that would double as a partition. Creative and practical solutions! Highly satisfied with the visit.

We visited the NoBroker Varthur center for our villa interior project in Sarjapur Road. The design team was fantastic in understanding our preference for a blend of traditional and contemporary styles. They showed us premium material options including solid wood, veneer, and high-gloss acrylic finishes. The TV unit and crockery unit designs on display were stunning. Highly recommended for villa owners!

This review is from a couple who fights about everything haha. I wanted dark colors and modern look, my husband wanted light wood and earthy tones. The designer at Varthur center literally played mediator. She showed us a concept where the common areas (living room, kitchen) use light wooden textures that my husband likes, and the master bedroom uses the darker charcoal tones that I prefer. The kids room got a neutral palette with colorful accents. Everyone happy. She called it 'transitional design' where different zones have different personalities but connected by a common accent color (we chose teal). The 3D walkthrough she made showed exactly how it all flows together. I showed it to 3 friends and they all said it looks like something out of Architectural Digest. OK maybe I'm exaggerating a little but you get the point. We both love it.

We visited the HSR NoBroker experience center for flooring and wall treatment options for our living room. The team showed us various options including wooden flooring, vitrified tiles, and designer wall panels. They explained the pros and cons of each option for Bangalore's climate. The combination of textured wall panels with warm lighting they suggested transformed our visualization completely.

We are from Thanisandra and visited the center for our villa interior project. The designer adapted her approach for a larger independent house—didn't just scale up apartment designs. She proposed separate design personalities for ground floor (where guests are entertained—formal, elegant) and first floor (private family spaces—warm, casual). The staircase got under-staircase pull-out storage that holds 30 pairs of shoes. The double-height living room got a dramatic false ceiling with a chandelier recess. The master bedroom got a walk-in closet design instead of a regular wardrobe. Villa interiors need different thinking than apartment interiors and this team clearly has experience with both formats.

I had a great experience with NoBroker Interiors at the HRBR Experience Centre. The entire process was smooth and well-managed. Pradnyan (Designer) did an excellent job in understanding our requirements and providing thoughtful design solutions. Unnav from Sales was very supportive and ensured everything was clearly explained and well-coordinated throughout the process. Hetal also gave a detailed explanation, making it easy for us to understand every aspect. Overall, the team was professional, responsive, and helpful. Looking forward to moving ahead with them!

Something specific about the Horamavu team that I havent seen mentioned in other reviews—they offer a FREE pre-site-assessment before giving you any quotation. An engineer visits your apartment, checks wall conditions for dampness, verifies electrical point locations, measures ceiling height variations (builder flats often have slightly uneven ceilings), checks floor levelness, and documents any structural elements like beams and pillars that affect furniture placement. All this BEFORE you pay a single rupee. This assessment report then becomes the foundation for an accurate design and quotation. Other companies quote based on a floor plan drawing alone without ever seeing the actual site conditions. That's like prescribing medicine without examining the patient.

I am delighted to write this review after completing my VILA interior through NO BROKER Team The production and execution team is very professional and customer friendly in accommodating and matching with our requirements and our dreams of what we want to have it in our home. If I can mention the name then it is certainly Mr. Harsha, Mr. Munish and Mr. Suhail will take away entire credit for the final output This team is far better than their in-house design team who doesn't know much about practical application of what they or could do using a software. They need more experience particularly using the wood and material selection along with final finish with light fittings. Even though there was a mismatch and less expectation from NO BROKER certain team members, The above mentioned team members pulled it together and gave the best satisfactory finish

As a working professional with limited time to manage contractors, the project management aspect is what attracted me. Visited the center with a Pinterest board of 47 saved kitchen images. The consultant didn’t get overwhelmed. She patiently went through each one, identified common elements I was drawn to (handleless cabinets, wooden textures, open shelving), and created a unified design that captured the essence of all those pins. She basically translated my chaotic Pinterest board into a cohesive design. Overall we are very satisfied with the entire experience from start to finish.
