Last month, when I noticed my AC unit started blowing warm air instead of cool air, I immediately hired a technician to fix it. He said it happens because of ice on your AC unit. He shared more AC coil freezing reasons and their fixes. Some include low refrigerant levels, dirty air filters, and more. I have added all the causes and their solutions below.

Why does the AC Coils Freezing Up?
Here are some causes the AC technician informed me of.
Low Refrigerant Levels
The evaporator coils, which cool the air, may freeze over when the refrigerant levels are low.
This happens because the coils are getting too cold due to insufficient refrigerant, which causes ice to form.
Leaks, incorrect charging, and other system issues can cause a low refrigerant level in the AC.
Dirty Air Filters
He further said your air conditioner's filters collect dust, grime, and other airborne particles. These filters have the potential to clog over time and limit the airflow. Ice can form if there is less airflow across the evaporator coil, as it lowers the temperature.
Thermostat Issues
The AC unit may operate longer than necessary because of a broken thermostat. It could result in overcooling and possible ice buildup on the evaporator coil.
Solutions for Air Conditioner Coils Freezing Up
Here is what the AC technician said.
Plan routine maintenance inspections for your AC.
Depending on usage, replace or clean your air filters regularly (every one to three months).
Verify that every air vent is open and unobstructed.
Ensure your thermostat is operating and set correctly.
I hope you found this helpful.
