Well, there are many reasons as to justify why is copper used for plumbing. Copper has been amongst the most widespread material to be used in plumbing lines. Even at my home, we have plumbing made of copper and it works very well. Copper exhibits properties such as being nontoxic, antimicrobial and more.

Reasons why Copper is Used in Plumbing

Here are some reasons why copper is preferred for plumbing work:

  1. Nontoxic: Well, copper is nontoxic, so it won’t let harmful substances into portable water, making it an ideal material to keep the wate safe to use.

  2. Rustic and Resistant to Corrosion: Copper doesn’t contain iron, so it doesn’t rust. Copper can corrode but it offers a greater level of resistance to corrosion in comparison to other metals.

  3. Antimicrobial: Apart from the property of nontoxic, copper is also antimicrobial. What happens is that copper kills bacteria and viruses as the water flows through the pipe. Although copper doesn’t help overcome all forms of waterborne illness, but it does lower the risk.

  4. Ductile: Also, copper’s property of being ductile helps in using it for pipes. Copper water pipes are capable of bending and deforming without any fracture.

So, these are some reasons why copper is preferred and used as a material for plumbing. I hope this information turns out to be useful for you.
