Quartz countertops are priced higher primarily because of their durability and thickness factors. During our kitchen renovation, I wanted to get quartz countertops because of its high-quality and glossy finish. My husband insisted granite was better than quartz. So, it was then we did some research on the pros and cons of both countertops. Comparing the prices, we found quartz countertops are costlier than granite, but the quality is unmatched. Let me explain why are quartz countertops so expensive.

What are the Factors Influencing the Costs of Quartz Countertops?

The main reason behind the cost of quartz countertops is their thickness. We found such countertops are available in mostly two sizes: 15 mm and 20 mm. Here are some pros of quartz countertops that make them costly.

  1. They are highly durable and tough.

  2. You can customise the finish based on your preferences. It can have a concrete-like granular texture, a glossy finish, or a rugged surface, depending on your interior design.

  3. Quartz countertops are also antibacterial, which makes them stain and crack resistant.

  4. Since they are solid platforms, you don’t need to apply epoxy very often.

  5. They are also easy to maintain.

  6. It also comes in a variety of colours and textures, as compared to granite countertops.

Drawbacks of Quartz Countertops

Despite all the pros, we found a few limitations of having quartz countertops.

  1. They are sensitive to UV rays, which can lead to discoloration. But this can only happen if it’s exposed to sunlight too often.

  2. We also found they are not as heat resistant as other countertops, especially granite. So, you must be careful while keeping hot pots and pans above them.

So, we found more pros than cons with quartz countertops, which convinced my husband too. I hope this gives you clarity on the price of quartz.
