I had an old mandir, which I did not want to just throw off. So in a respectful way, I kept it under a peepal tree that was present inside a temple. So, if you ask me: what to do with old mandir at home? I would say it is best if you could respectfully donate it to someone in need, place it under a Peepal or Banyan tree, or if it holds special sentimental value, you can keep it in your attic.

How to Dispose of an Old Temple?

  1. To a temple or charity: You can give it to any temple or religious institutions.

  2. To someone in need: If someone is in need of a mandir but is unable to pay for a new one, you might offer it to them.

  3. Burying in earth: Since returning religious objects to nature is regarded as a holy deed, you can respectfully bury the mandir or any of its components in the ground.

  4. Place it under a Peepal tree: Because peepal trees are considered sacred and regarded to be an abode for deities.

  5. Speak with NGOs: Groups that specialise in the appropriate disposal of idols, such as the Sampurnam Seva Foundation, can provide services and advice.

I hope this helps!
