Q.

What to do to leave a house of 4 year agreement?

I have taken a rented PG in Srirampur at a house. There, I had to sign an agreement for 4 years to stay. And now, after 6 months, I want to leave that house. So what should I do about that?

If you signed a 4-year PG deal but want to leave after 6 months, look at the exit and notice clause. Rather than a severe lock-in, many PG agreements contain a notice time or penalty. Apart from this, you can do the following:

  • Discuss your case with the owner and try to negotiate an early exit, a new renter, or a lower penalty.

  • If the agreement appears unreasonable or one-sided, speak with a lawyer.

  • To avoid disagreements, maintain written contact, provide official notice, and avoid leaving without an agreement.

Local rental rules may also affect the enforceability of long-term lock-in agreements.
