I love Dhanteras because it marks the beginning of the 5-day Diwali festival. We celebrate it 2 days before the Badhi Diwali festival. It is a special occasion for Hindu households as it carries a lot of spiritual and religious significance. On this day, we invite Goddess Lakshmi with an elaborate puja. Read below to know about the do’s and don’ts of Dhanteras puja at home:
You should perform Lakshmi puja during Pradosh Kaal (2 hours duration that immediately follows the sunset) to bring good luck and prosperity into the household.
You should buy items like silver and gold coins, copperware, gold items, silver idols of Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Ganesh, and Lord Kuber on this day to bring luck and auspiciousness into your home
Worshipping cows and feeding them with fodder on this day is said to be auspicious.
It is auspicious to buy medicines (especially ear and eye drops) and donate them to poor people as Dhanteras is the day when the Lord of Medicine (Lord Dhanvantri) emerged from the ocean.

What Not to Do on DhanterasDo not consume liquor and non-vegetarian food on this day.
Do not give money to anyone or make any bill payments on this day. Avoid activities like borrowing money from others or paying back loans.
Do not buy items that are made of iron, leather items, or items with sharp edges. Avoid buying black colored things on this day.
