While moving from my old place to the new one, the movers damaged my bed. As I wasn’t aware of what to do, I called a friend and asked him about what to do if movers break something. He provided me with a few pointers and here are those. 

What Happens if Movers Break Something?

  • Know What they are Responsible For
He told me to learn about the things that might be covered under the moving contract or insurance. He also told me that, if I packed all the boxes on my own then any type of damage will not be typically covered.
  • Write it Down
My friend told me to make a note of any damage that I spot and add it to the bill. According to him, the written documentation of damage signed by me and the mover is good to have when filing a claim. He also alerted me saying that some movers might offer money upfront to settle and I shouldn’t accept. 
  • Act Quickly
He also told me that even if I notice the damage a few days later, it's still possible to file a successful claim. He asked me to act quickly to prove the movers’ liability.
  • Take Pictures
According to him, taking pictures is very effective. He told me to capture time-stamped photos so that I can prove that the date of the pictures is after the move.
  • File A Claim
He asked me to get in touch with the company, and have someone send me the appropriate paperwork that I need to file the claim.He also told me to complete the paperwork and mailed it back.
