You know selecting the appropriate cabinet material is a crucial step in creating your ideal kitchen. Before the interior work started for my kitchen, I asked the interior designer what material is good for kitchen cabinets. He said, generally, high-density fiberboard (HDF-HMR) and plywood are considered the best materials for kitchen cabinets.

HDF-HMR Kitchen Cabinet Material

It stands for High-Density Fibreboard, High Moisture Resistance. It is mostly used in places with high water intensity, such as bathrooms and kitchens. Compared to MDF or ordinary plywood, it is more resistant to warping and swelling from exposure to water. Additionally, it gives paint finishes a smooth surface.

The price of HDF-HMR material starts at Rs. 2759 per sq ft and can go up to Rs. 4129 per sq ft.

Plywood Kitchen Cabinet Material

Engineered wood, or plywood, is manufactured by stacking veneer sheets on top of one another perpendicularly. Its strength and structural integrity have made it one of the most popular materials for kitchen cabinets.

For the greatest moisture resistance, look for varieties such as Boiling Waterproof Ply (BWP). Plywood kitchen cabinets can cost anything from Rs. 2300 to Rs. 5000 per square foot.

I got a plywood cabinet installed in my kitchen. There are other materials also available for kitchen cabinets, like PVC, aluminium, stainless steel, MDF, or solid wood. But, none of them beats HDF-HMR and plywood materials.
