Last week, I heard about the WPC board while shopping for furniture material. I immediately asked the shopkeeper what is WPC board. He said WPC stands for Wood Plastic Composite board. It is a contemporary substitute for plywood and conventional wood. I have shared what it really means and its benefits below.

What is the WPC Board Meaning?

A WPC board is a hybrid material composed of wood fibres or sawdust and thermoplastic polymers. It is composed of 15% wood powder, 15% additional chemicals, and 70% virgin polymers. These boards are frequently used in the construction industry due to their exceptional strength and longevity.

Benefits of WPC Boards

  1. One of the key factors driving the growing use of WPC boards is the fact that their production does not contribute to deforestation.

  2. WPC boards are robust, long-lasting, and resistant to rotting, warping, and cracking.

  3. These boards work well for furniture that is termite-proof.

  4. Unlike traditional building materials, WPC wood doesn't absorb moisture easily.

  5. WPC boards are resistant to UV rays and are available in a variety of colors.

Ultimately, a WPC board is a cutting-edge building material that combines the strength of plastic with the appearance of wood. Variables, including supplier location, quality, and quantity, determine the price of WPC boards. I hope you understand what is meant by WPC board.

I heard the term WPC board for the first time last year during our home remodelling. It was my father who told me the WPC board full form, which is Wood Plastic Composite. He also explained to me the various benefits of using WPC along with some of its applications and specifications which I will be sharing with you.

What is the Full Form of WPC Board?

As I already mentioned that WPC stands for Wood Plastic Composite, let me also tell you that it is a type of composite material which consists of wood fibre, combined with thermoplastic. As already mentioned in the above answer, WPC board means a material created with the help of plastic and sawdust. WPCs have an extensive range of applications which I have listed below.

Furniture

Wood plastic composites are widely used to make furniture like chairs, tables, and cabinets, and shelves. This is because they have a smooth surface which gives a natural look to the furniture.

Decking

WPCs have a slip-resistant surface that prevents accidents and injuries. They also have a weather-resistant surface that protects from rainwater damage.

Wood Panels

WPCs are also widely used in areas like kitchens, bathrooms, and bedrooms, as they have a decorative surface that gives a style and character to the space. It also offers an acoustic surface which means they are great for reducing noise transmission.

My father also explained to me some common specifications of WPCs

  • Their thickness ranges from 2 mm to 25 mm

  • Their density is usually between 600 kg/m³ to 800 kg/m³ depending on their composition.

  • They usually come in natural brown colour but it can vary depending on their pigments.

  • Their texture can also vary depending on the manufacturing process.

I hope this answer helps you understand WPC board full form and its meaning.

What is meant by WPC board?

WPC boards, also known as Wood Plastic Composite (WPC), are a mixed material created by combining plastic and sawdust. WPC boards are widely used for a variety of structural and non-structural purposes. Because of its good characteristics and durability compared to other materials used for the same purpose. They are among the greatest substitutes for plywood and natural wood. Since they have extra properties including water resistance, lack of rot, versatility, ease of use, and a variety of colours. They are often utilised for exteriors, pool decking, interiors, furnishings, doors, and windows.

What are the advantages of the WPC board?

1) WPC boards are made from 100% renewable and recyclable resources, including waste of wood, toxic waste, agricultural residues, and waste plastic. WPC boards are manufactured without using any wood from trees.

2) WPC boards are more heat- and moisture-resistant if you compare them to other existing construction materials. For customizable kitchen cabinets, partitions, closets, and other similar products, they are chosen over marine plywood, hardwood, and related items.

3) WPC boards are unaffected by climate fluctuations like rainfall, snowfall, moisture and toxins due to their excellent durability. As a result, they are employed in external systems.

What are the disadvantages of the WPC board?

1) In WPC boards, the drawbacks of wood and plastic are clear.

2) The initial investment is rather high if you compare it to other available materials used for that reason.

3) When you use it in furnishings, frames, and windows, wooden finishes provide an unnatural appearance.

4) High temperatures won't harm them in any way. When hot objects are placed over the WPC board, they appear to be melting if the temperature is above 80 – 90 degrees.

Now you know what is WPC board.
