To be eligible for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) quota in India, you must meet the following criteria:
You must belong to the general category (not covered under reservation for SCs, STs, or OBCs).
Your family's gross annual income must be below Rs. 8 lakhs.
Your family must not own agricultural land of more than 5 acres.
Your family must not own a residential flat of more than 1000 square feet.
Your family must not own a residential plot of land of more than 100 square yards in notified municipal areas or 200 square yards in non-notified municipal areas.
To apply for the EWS quota, you will need to submit an income certificate and an asset certificate. These certificates can be obtained from the revenue authorities in your district.
The EWS quota is a 10% reservation for economically weaker sections in government jobs and educational institutions. The EWS quota was introduced by the Indian government in 2019 to provide educational and employment opportunities to economically weaker sections of the general category.
