The chairman’s eligibility in a society depends on the rules and bylaws of the society. However, some general qualifications and qualities that a chairman may need are:

  • He should be a member of the society and elected by the management committee or the general body of the society.

  • He should have the power of overall supervision, control and guidance in respect of the management of the affairs of the society within the framework of the relevant laws and bylaws.

  • He should have the final decisive power in case of any emergency or dispute and be one of the signatories for the bank operations of the society.

  • He should preside over all the major meetings of the society, such as the annual general meeting, and have two votes, one as a member and another as a decisive vote.

  • He should be responsible for keeping a tab on the smooth and hassle-free functioning of the society, ensuring that all records are maintained and updated properly, arranging for welfare and social activities, and taking up any other responsibility as required.

  • He should have some personal qualities, such as leadership, communication, impartiality, tactfulness, patience, and knowledge of the rules and procedures of the society.
