What is Slab on Grade Foundation?
Pouring a single layer of concrete over a ready-made soil base is the foundation-building process known as "slab on grade." In this scenario, strip or point foundations take over the load-bearing role.
A slab-on-grade foundation typically includes a thin layer of concrete that covers the whole area of the base and thicker footings at the edges or below load-bearing walls in the center of the building. The slab absorbs heat during the day and releases it at night, assisting in the maintenance of a stable indoor temperature. This can result in lower energy expenses by reducing the need for heating and cooling systems.
What is Slab on Grade Construction?
The earth is mined to the desired depth and compressed to eliminate air gaps before casting the slab on grade.
Before the concrete is poured, the batters are designated and positioned as planned. These boards serve as a concrete mold, aiding in the identification of slab corners.
For the construction, I made significant efforts to correctly prepare the soil substrate and reinforce the concrete slab. This may include installing a vapor barrier to prevent moisture from infiltrating the concrete and incorporating expansion joints to accommodate any movement that may occur.
One of the main benefits of slab on grade construction is its cost-effectiveness.
