State Bank of India (SBI) offers a Loan Against Securities (LAS) facility where borrowers can pledge eligible securities such as shares, mutual funds, insurance policies, NSC/KVP, or Sovereign Gold Bonds as collateral. It helps to raise funds without liquidating investments. But what is the SBI loan against securities interest rate? It starts at 7.50% per annum.
What is the Interest Rate for SBI Loan Against Securities?
It ranges from 7.5% p.a. to 11.50% p.a. This financing option allows access to credit while retaining the investment and its potential appreciation.
Interest rates for LAS are set on a floating basis linked to SBI’s 1‑year MCLR. As of the latest update effective June 15, 2025, the spread over 1‑year MCLR depends on the pledged asset:
Securities such as mutual funds, shares, insurance policies, NSC/KVP carry a spread of +250 basis points, resulting in an effective rate of 10.10% p.a.
Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGBs) come with a lower spread of +200 bps, equating to 7.50% p.a.
Loans against bank time deposits and FCNR(B) deposits are charged at MCLR‑linked rates, typically adding 1.00% to the deposit rate or 2.90% over MCLR for FCNR(B), respectively.
For loan against mutual funds, SBI also provides an online overdraft facility where interest starts from 9% p.a. However, it depends on fund type and customer profile.
For loan against Insurance Policies of LIC/ Dept. of Post Offices/India Post/SBI Life/ ICICI Prudential/ HDFC Standard, the interest rate is 11.50% p.a.
